He keeps getting better!

Every day Dan continues to improve with very noticeable changes. Melissa, Grace and I saw him twice today and he looks so much better with his strength continuing to improve. He can even stand up with the assistance of a walker! Dan is no longer using any breathing assistance, he is urinating regularly and has lost 47 pounds. Mari keeps teasing Dan saying what a crazy way to loose weight. At this point the virus that caused all of this is still not known and Dan's kidneys still need to heal fully. He is required to eat food with lower sodium and will continue to be on dialysis until his kidneys are fully healed. His spirits have also been lifted more especially today. The Dan we all know and love continues to re-emerge with a joke here and there. They are even talking about sending him home sometime in the near future (maybe even a few days...?). Anyways God has been so faithful and we have seen such noticible answers to prayer...just had to share the latest with you.

Joy Needed...and an idea!

More good news...Dan was moved out of ICU tonight and is now back in DCU. His strength is slowly coming back and he is even able to eat some regular food. On top of that he continues to produce more urine which is a good sign in relation to his kidneys. Dan however is really discouraged! The combination of all the trauma, the potentially long rehab process and his current state has brought him really low. Here is where you come in! On top of praying for an infusion of joy, hope and encouragement here's another practical idea. I think it would be great if Dan was bombarded with cards and notes from all of us telling him how much we love him and how he has impacted our lives. One of the amazing things through this whole situation has been how many people have responded in prayer, concern and support for Dan. Then again it really is not that much of a surprise because Dan and Mari are pretty incredible people. So...lets bless their socks off and tell them (especially Dan)! Since Dan is still pretty weak too many visitors will prevent him from resting so cards or pictures are the best bet. You can mail cards to 1211 Windecker Dr. Chico CA 95926. Have fun!

Latest News

More good news, part of the result from the kidney biopsy came back indicating that Dan's kidneys are not permanently shut down. The recovery rate is not as clear at this point but this was good news! Also, all of the lab results came back negative which included West Nile and several other. This is good but also means that they still do not know what has caused all of this. Dan continues to look much better but is still really weak. Just scratching his nose takes significant effort. The prayer is that his kidney's recover in record time and Dan's strength increases. Happy Thanksgiving!

Perspective

Psalm 103 came to mind this morning after hearing the good news of Dan being off the vent. During this Thanksgiving season I am reminded of who the God we worship, praise, and thank is! It is not that He has ever changed, but at times our perspective or memory has. Sometimes we (I) have spiritual amnesia…forgetting that He is the God who forgives, heals, redeems and satisfies! This Thanksgiving I am challenged and encouraged to “forget not all of His benefits…” as I am thankful for family, friends and so much more. I hope this verse encourages you as well! May you as well be thankful for the family and friends that are around you tomorrow…I know that I can say on behalf of the Dailey family…we are and you are a big part of that!

Psalm 103:1-5
1 Praise the LORD, O my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.

2 Praise the LORD, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits

3 who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,

4 who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,

5 who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

He's off the vent!

Great news Dan is off the ventilator! By last night Dan was breathing on his own without the ventilator. Last night the doctor was going to do a bronchacoscopy (test on his lungs) and he was unintentionally fighting them and the vent pulled out. So not only is his breathing better but he still has that fighting spirit! He is making more urine, but the area he needs the most healing is his kidneys. They are going to do a biopsy on his kidneys to find out the extent of damage. Your prayers are working so keep them coming. Mari told Melissa last night that as she was praying yesterday the Lord impressed upon her that He is using this whole ordeal with Dan to bring people together and reveal to them how powerful their prayers are when they are united. May He, the great healer continue to be lifted up and may our trust and faith in who He is and what He can do only increase! Next up lets see these kidneys restored and healed. Also, continue to pray that they identify the virus that caused all of this. Many blessings to you today!

God is moving!

I just read through the comments from the last post and was so overwhelmed with how many of you have been praying and mobilizing prayer!!! The body of Christ is an amazing thing. Mari has commented on how blessed she has been that so many are praying for Dan. The best thing is that it is working! Dan is still stable and getting stronger. The doctors said that in the next couple of days they want to wean him off of the ventilator. His kidney's are still in a state that require dialysis daily. One other prayer point is the transfusionist said that he might have to be on dialysis for two months. The good news is that there is improvement. Lets just keep praying that the healing process would baffle the medical staff and God would be glorified to all involved. I will post another update when I have more information. Many blessings to each of you!

Steady

Things have not changed much since this morning. Melissa ad I left the hospital earler this afternoon and he was looking much better. Thankfully there have been some little improvements like more urine and response. I guess the old saying "no news is good news" is true for tonight's update. No complications means Dan is getting some good rest since he is still on the ventilator and is still pretty sedated.

Monday morning update!

I just got off the phone with Mari and she gave me the latest on hat has been going on. She said he has stabilized and is not getting worse. Mari said that the doctors said that it is obvious that his body is still under attack from some sort of virus or...? The problem is that they don't know what? He is still on the ventilator and they just started him on dialysis this morning. In addition to this Enloe has begun to counsel with the UC San Francisco's Disease and Infection specialists. Mari said that they are trying to rule out Hemorrhagic E Coli. I guess some of the symptoms are similar? There were several cases of this in Forest Ranch, CA (Just up the hill from Chico for you out of towners). The thing that caused Hemorrhagic E Coli in Forrest Ranch was meat that people had eaten. Besides miraculous healing the continued big prayer point is that they would know what is causing all of this. Blessings to you! The family sends their thanks for your prayers and support.

Internal bleeding?

I received a call from Mari a bit ago and she called asking for some more prayer. She said that the doctors think that Dan might have some internal bleeding. From what she said Dan is not doing well again. I really don't have any more information than that right now but please be praying for Mari especially. I know that this is wearing on her and it does not help that what triggered this still has not been identified. God's wisdom, power, and might goes beyond the understanding of man!
With God nothing is impossible.

Keep those prayers coming!

Some good news! Dan was able to get some sleep last night being on the ventilator. Also, this morning he was able to urinate a little which is a good sign in relation to his kidneys. He is still on dialysis daily to prevent fluid build up. All in all he is doing better than he was yesterday although he is still in critical condition in the ICU. We have have all been so encouraged with the response of friends and family. There are literally hundreds of people praying for Dan and right now this is the most critical thing anyone can do! So keep those prayers coming and spread the word to others who know Dan and the family. We love you all!

End of the day update

Hello everyone,

Thanks for all of your prayers, please keep them coming. Dan is currently still in the ICU under critical condition. At about 2:30 this afternoon they put him on a respirator. He was still in significant pain and having to work harder than normal to breathe. In the immediate this means that things are not getting better but the doctor thinks that in the long run this will help stabilize him much more. Please be specifically praying for Mari and that the virus or bacterial infection that caused this whole chain of events to be identified.

Difficult Time Breathing

The most current update is that Dan is still in ICU. He is continuing to have trouble breathing and so they anticipate having to put him on a ventilator. They are also bringing in a special disease and infection physician to try to discover the virus that is causing all of this. Just wanted to keep you all posted. Since Dan is in the ICU Mari has asked that people don't come down to the hospital to visit. Dan is really tired because breathing is so hard. Thank you so much for your prayers!

Update on Dan

Hello friends,

By now many of you are aware that that my father in-law Dan Dailey went in to the hospital yesterday. Dan had been sick all week with flu like symptom and not getting better. He went in to the hospital on Monday for dehydration. Later in the week things had not improved and they ended up doing some blood work and discovered his kidneys had begun to fail due to muscle tissue break down in his body because of an undetermined virus. Because his kidneys are shutting down his body began to retain fluid and he was in even more pain and critical condition. They put him dialysis today and this helped with the fluid but his kidneys are still shut down.

I got a call this afternoon from Mari saying that his SAP level (oxygen levels) had dropped and he was coughing blood up. They moved him to the ICU because he was extremely unstable and having respiratory problems. Thankfully many have been praying for him and he has since improved to a much more stable status but the situation is still very serious. The major prayer is that they will discover what virus is causing all of this and be able to identify exactly what is going on with him. Ultimately we are simply praying that God will supernaturally heal him! As you can imagine this has been extremely hard on the family especially on Melissa, her mom, and her brothers. The biggest need we have is prayer. As the Lord leads you please continue to join us in prayer. We saw the power of prayer this afternoon as he went from a very critical and unstable condition to a much more stable one.

With much thanks and faith!

Zack and the rest of the Dailey family

P.S.- Please forward this on to any others you think would want to join us in prayer for Dan and the Dailey family.
